Mount Kalaga is Leonida’s backcountry: a national park on the northern border with a colored canyon, pine woods, muddy trails and people who moved out here to get away from the government. Rockstar sells it for three things (hunting, fishing and off-roading), and its screenshots show all three.

What you can do in Mount Kalaga

  • Hunt. Hunting is named in Rockstar’s text, and Rockstar’s caption for one screenshot describes two people holding rifles, walking side by side through the woods of Mount Kalaga National Park. Previews say hunting is tied to one of Jason’s contacts and can earn money (reported). See hunting in GTA 6. Official
  • Fish and paddle. Fishing is named in Rockstar’s text, and a screenshot shows a kayaker in a life vest heading for a bridge over the river. See fishing in GTA 6. Official
  • Ride off-road. Rockstar shows four riders on dirt bikes tearing through the mud with an ATV jumping behind them, and pitches the Ultimate Edition’s Dominator Buggy for “the backwoods of Mount Kalaga and beyond.” Official
  • Watch the wildlife. A cougar stalks a herd of deer at a stream in one of Rockstar’s screenshots, which hints at predators hunting on their own. Official
  • Meet the locals. Rockstar says “hillbilly mystics and paranoid radicals” live in the surrounding backwoods. Expect strange side missions out here. Expected

Where it is and how to get there

Rockstar places the park “up against the state’s northern border,” on Leonida’s “northern fringes.” Ambrosia and, on community maps, Lake Leonida lie to the south, and Vice City is at the other end of the state. Official screenshots show a road winding between two steep, eroded hillsides and a truss bridge over the river, so there are roads in; beyond them the land belongs to dirt bikes, ATVs and buggies. License plates name the state next door as Gloriana (reported), and nothing suggests you can cross into it.

Rockstar’s description

“Room to breathe on the state’s northern fringes,” says Rockstar’s headline, under the tagline “Wild, Wild Country.” The text calls Mount Kalaga a national landmark that offers “prime hunting, fishing, and off-road trails,” then adds the people: in the lush backwoods around it, “hillbilly mystics and paranoid radicals live far from the prying eyes of the government.”

That second line lines up with the militia compounds and backwoods oddballs fan lists had already guessed at, and it makes the park more than a hunting ground.

Real-world inspiration

Florida is flat, so Mount Kalaga’s canyon looks like Providence Canyon in southwest Georgia: orange, pink and white gullies carved by erosion after poor farming in the 1800s, nicknamed Georgia’s Little Grand Canyon. The fan match fits the layered colors in Rockstar’s canyon-road screenshot. The rest reads as the North Florida and South Georgia pine belt: longleaf pine and live oak, sandy forest roads and slow rivers. Gloriana on the plates is most likely Georgia, which would put Mount Kalaga where the real state line runs.

What we have seen

Mount Kalaga has had little trailer time, so most of what we know comes from Rockstar’s screenshots: a news helicopter over a wooded ridge, the dirt bikes and ATV in the mud (with a ruined industrial site behind them that community wikis tie to an abandoned phosphate mine), the hunters, the canyon road, the cougar and deer, and the kayaker. The Extended Look’s activity montage included fishing, kayaking and off-road driving without labeling where each scene was.

Story ties

No character on Rockstar’s site is tied to Mount Kalaga. Some fan sites attach Brian Heder to it because his bio sits next to the Mount Kalaga panel, but that page simply alternates people and places, and Brian’s bio puts him in the Keys. The park’s likely roles are hideout and hunting ground, the way Rockstar used the mountains in Red Dead Redemption 2 and Blaine County in GTA V. Rob Nelson has said the pair’s hideouts change with each chapter (reported), so a northern safehouse is possible, but that is inference.

What is rumored

Leaked map material from August 2026 labels the northern county Lummox, and the 2022 breach used the names Yorktown and Red Hill for a town and forest up here. Fan wildlife lists add hogs, foxes and, on some lists, bison; fans have also spotted a raccoon in an official screenshot. None of it is confirmed. For the whole state in one place, see the Leonida map and the map size comparison; for the gear, see the weapons list and the animals list.

Frequently asked questions

What is Mount Kalaga in GTA 6?

Mount Kalaga National Park is the wilderness region on Leonida's northern border. Its tagline is "Wild, Wild Country" and Rockstar says it offers prime hunting, fishing and off-road trails, with hillbilly mystics and paranoid radicals living in the backwoods around it.

Is Mount Kalaga a real place?

No. Florida has no mountains, and fans match the park's orange, gullied canyon to Providence Canyon in southwest Georgia, nicknamed Georgia's Little Grand Canyon. The pine forest around it reads as North Florida.

Can you hunt in GTA 6?

Yes. Rockstar names hunting in its Mount Kalaga text and shows two people carrying rifles through the park's woods. Gator hunting appears in the Extended Look, and previews say hunting can earn money (reported).

What animals are in Mount Kalaga?

Rockstar's own screenshot shows a cougar stalking a herd of deer drinking from a stream. Fans have also spotted a raccoon, and fan lists add hogs, foxes and even bison, none of which Rockstar has shown.

What is beyond Mount Kalaga?

The state border. License plates in official footage name a neighboring state called Gloriana, which fans read as Georgia, but nothing suggests you can drive into it.

What changed on this page

  • Added Rockstar's full region text (including its backwoods radicals), the cougar and deer in Rockstar's own screenshots, and what you can do there, and removed two wrong claims about the region blurb and its wildlife. Added Rockstar's caption for the hunters screenshot and links to the hunting and fishing pages.
