GTA 6 release time: when it unlocks in your time zone

What is official and what is not

Official: GTA 6 releases on Thursday, November 19, 2026, and pre-load opens November 12. Every regional PlayStation Store listing also carries a release timestamp. We read them on September 23, 2026, and each one is set to midnight in that country's main time zone official. The US, UK, French, German, Australian and New Zealand listings were unchanged when we re-checked them on September 28. GTA BOOM reported the same pattern from its own store check on September 7.

Not official yet: a schedule from Rockstar, the Xbox unlock time, and the exact pre-load hour. Store timestamps can also change before launch, so check your own store page during launch week.

The detail that catches people out: a country with several time zones unlocks all at once. The US and Canadian stores both open at 12:00 AM Eastern, so Los Angeles and Vancouver play from 9:00 PM on November 18. Australia opens on Sydney time, which puts Perth at 9:00 PM the evening before.

PS5 unlock times by region

Every row comes from that country's PlayStation Store listing, checked September 23, 2026 (the US, UK, France, Germany, Australia and New Zealand re-checked September 28). Daylight saving has ended in Europe and North America by November 19 and is in effect in New Zealand and southeastern Australia.

Midnight on November 19 means the start of Thursday, so in the UK you play from the moment Wednesday night turns into Thursday. We checked Germany and France for Central European Time. Spain, Italy and the other CET countries are expected to match, but we have not opened each store. For any country not listed, midnight local time on November 19 is the best guess.

US and Canada: one unlock for every time zone

Xbox Series X|S: no time announced yet

The Microsoft Store page shows November 19, 2026 and no time, and neither Microsoft nor Rockstar has announced an Xbox unlock not announced. The listing data behind the page does carry a release timestamp for each country. On September 23 all ten we checked matched PlayStation's exactly: 05:00 UTC for the US and Canada, 00:00 UTC for the UK, 23:00 UTC for Germany and France, 13:00 UTC for Australia, 11:00 UTC for New Zealand, 15:00 UTC for Japan, and the same Indian, Brazilian and Mexican times as the table above. On September 28 the US data still showed 05:00 UTC.

That points to the same unlock moments on both consoles, including 9:00 PM on November 18 for the US West Coast. Store data is not an announcement, though, so treat the Xbox times as our reading until Microsoft or Rockstar states them.

Pre-load time

Pre-load opens November 12, 2026, and Rockstar Support says it begins "at local midnight" official. The PlayStation Store lists a 7-day pre-load but gives no hour. On PS5 the unlock follows each store region's clock rather than yours, so the pre-load may too: that would mean 12:00 AM Eastern on November 12 across the US, or 9:00 PM Pacific on November 11. That last part is our reading, not a listing. Physical copies are a download code in a box, available to ship and pick up from November 12, so redeem the code as soon as you have it.

A box only starts the pre-load once it is in your hands. Amazon's listing says shipments "will begin arriving November 12 for pre-load": Prime members get free release-day delivery on November 12 (continental US addresses), and standard delivery can arrive later, so check the date at checkout. If you want to start the download the minute pre-load opens, buy digital, or pick up a box from a store on November 12. Amazon's PS5 code works only on US and Canadian PlayStation accounts. More on what Amazon ships and when.

New to Prime? New members can start a 30-day free trial (Amazon, checked September 28); a trial started before mid-October runs out before November 12, so start it later or keep the membership. Launch night, step by step

1. Pre-load on November 12 and leave automatic updates on, so any day-one patch installs in rest mode.
2. In launch week, open your own store page and confirm the time. This page will note any change.
3. Be signed in about 15 minutes before your unlock. Store unlocks can take a few minutes to reach every console.
4. If the game still shows as locked, restart the console and restore licenses once. Do not delete and reinstall.

The full launch-night checklist covers the console settings for both platforms.

Should you use the New Zealand trick?

A New Zealand PlayStation account would unlock about 18 hours before the US and 13 hours before the UK. It also means a second account, a second purchase at New Zealand prices (NZ$139.95 for Standard) and a save that lives on that account, and PlayStation account regions cannot be changed after creation. For most players, it is not worth it. The full explanation is in the region trick on our early access page, and the launch-night checklist lists the catches.

For the date itself, the delay history and what is still to come, see the GTA 6 release date page. The GTA 6 countdown has a live PS5 unlock timer for your region.
