How it happened
Rockstar announced the showcase on August 6, 2026 with a 26-second teaser and chose a Netflix premiere, an unusual venue for a game video. In July, press and creators including IGN, The New York Times and TGG had watched Rob Nelson play the game hands-off at Rockstar North; sessions ran 30 minutes to about 2.5 hours depending on outlet. reported
Their embargo lifted at 3 PM Eastern on August 27, so the video and the first previews landed together. No hands-on preview has been reported. Our news story covers the Netflix premiere and what it confirmed.
The premiere also landed in the middle of a leak. From August 18, a group calling itself CYBERLEEK posted clips of the game. Community analysis dates the build to roughly 2023 to early 2025, but its real age is unknown and Rockstar has not said. rumor On August 26 Rockstar called the leaks "heartbreaking for our team" and said the game was "nearly there." The four jobs, and the montage between them
1. Venture Apartments: a package for Boobie
Jason and Lucia go to the Venture Apartments to pick up a package for Boobie Ike from Raymond, who runs a drug lab there. Ernesto, Raymond's partner, calls to say the task force is coming. The gta.wiki synopsis adds that he had informed on Raymond. rumor Mendez's task force storms the building at about 4:05, and Mendez shoots a suspect who is trying to surrender. official The pair hide in an elevator, then escape through the window of a neighbor, Aunt Tee, and Lucia drops to street level at about 6:00.
2. Effluvia: Brian and Lori's job
The pair drive to Effluvia, a rooftop bar, to meet Brian and Lori Heder. Brian has work, but he reveals that his contact wants to employ only one of the pair, according to the gta.wiki synopsis. Engadget's Dave Meikleham writes that the couple briefly discuss who takes it before Lucia stands up, "leaving Jason with the gig"; the gta.wiki synopsis leaves that out and goes straight to Brian and Jason on the balcony. reported On the balcony Brian tells Jason a childhood story about a fairground carousel and a friend who did not get off in time, then the warning: "You gotta know when to, get off, Jason." 3. Raul's getaway across the causeways
Lucia drives Raul Bautista's black Schafter over the Admiral Causeway to Vice Beach, meets Jason, and the two wait outside a robbery to collect Raul. When he jumps in with the alarms going, a police chase runs through Vice Beach. Afterwards the Schafter is torched with a Molotov and the crew switches to a Burrito van, which heads out over the Rialto Causeway past police who do not stop it; Postmode says Lucia throws the Molotov, and the gta.wiki synopsis describes the same swap. reported In a downtown alley Raul pays Jason, then leaves on the back of a scooter. Rob Nelson told Famitsu this is one of the missions that switches you automatically: you start as Jason shooting from the car, then control moves to Lucia at the wheel while Jason and Raul shoot. reported On screen, six wanted stars show on the HUD with the evidence icons under them, a police helicopter joins the chase, and swapping vehicles is how the crew loses the heat.
Between the jobs
From about 17:28 to 20:07 a free-roam montage sits between the getaway and the last job: binoculars, masks from the item wheel, the Hank's Waffles and Zeke's Gadgets hold-ups, Camilo's trunk livestream, a target range and a mid-chase switch from Jason to Lucia. Somewhere in the video, though no source gives a time, a fan recap by GTA News and the gta.wiki page for Dre'Quan Priest have him greeting the pair with hugs outside the Jack of Hearts. rumor How to pull off a hold-up is in our guide to robbing a store in GTA 6.
4. Megamundo: security at the grand opening
Valentina hires the pair as security for the opening of the Megamundo headquarters, a Spanish-language media company. Andrés de León lands by private jet at Vice City International Airport and makes Jason his driver. At the building, Petra Navarro, whom the gta.wiki synopsis and Postmode call Megamundo's COO, questions him about a planned "conference" upstairs. Recaps say Andrés is due to speak; the gta.wiki synopsis has an unnamed Megamundo CEO addressing the guests when the gunmen strike. reported The gunmen, disguised as maintenance workers, open fire and seize Andrés; Jason fights his way up to him and kills his captors, and Lucia falls down an elevator shaft while fighting one of the attackers (per the gta.wiki synopsis).
The closing monologue
From about 25:44 the Extended Look closes on a montage under a monologue about glory days that recaps and the gta.wiki transcript credit to Cal Hampton, Jason's conspiracy-minded friend. "Inner Light" by Elderbrook and Bob Moses plays over it and the credits. At 25:52 comes a scene on the water that Engadget's Dave Meikleham describes as Jason, Lucia and Brian Heder together, a nod to Red Dead Redemption 2's fishing. More on fishing in GTA 6.

The technical read
Digital Foundry found a native 1440p image with no dynamic resolution, a plain upscale to 4K with visible aliasing on fine detail, noisy ray-traced reflections (per Pure Xbox) and ray-traced global illumination (per Game Rant). Frame rate held at 30 with rare single-frame drops, and Digital Foundry judged 60 fps "extremely unlikely on console hardware" because it saw no way to free enough GPU and especially CPU time.
A day earlier Kotaku had reported that YouTuber Davy Jones, who visited Rockstar North, said Rob Nelson told visitors the consoles ran the game at 30 fps during development and that 60 fps was a question for the technical team (our news post). No performance mode has been announced; GTA 6 on PS5 tracks it.
The numbers, and what comes next
Netflix's weekly chart put the Extended Look at 31.1 million views between August 27 and 30, and Engadget reports it took the top spot in Netflix's movie rankings in 58 countries. Rockstar's YouTube upload passed 17.7 million views within days and read about 29 million on September 23. reported
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick framed it before it aired. Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz around August 10, 2026, he called the Netflix showcase "one of the hors d'oeuvres" and added: "There's appetizers, main course and dessert to follow." That is why the Trailer 3 question is still open, and why a launch trailer is widely expected before November 19.
As of September 28, 2026 the Extended Look is still Rockstar's latest GTA 6 video. The next dated look is a magazine, not a video: Game Informer says its issue 382 carries a 14-page cover story with 12 new screenshots, with the digital edition out September 29. reported Our Game Informer cover story post tracks what it adds.
