Leonida Penitentiary is the state prison where Lucia Caminos serves time before GTA 6’s story starts. Rockstar names it in her official bio: fighting for her family is what landed her there, and sheer luck got her out. It is also where Rockstar chose to start the story in its first trailer.

People connected to it
- Lucia Caminos. The inmate. Her bio says her father taught her to fight as soon as she could walk; what she actually did is not revealed.
- Stefanie. The corrections counselor in Trailer 1. Only her first name is known, from her nameplate. A surname circulates on fan sites, but it is not in official material.
- Jason Duval. Visits her in Trailer 2 and is waiting outside when she is released.
Where it is
Rockstar has not placed the prison. Community wikis put it in Hamlet, a town on the southern edge of Vice City on the road to the Leonida Keys. The name Hamlet is read from a road sign in Trailer 2, and it turns up in a Trailer 1 social clip too: “Neighborhood watch don’t play around in Hamlet.” reported
Real-world inspiration
No single prison. Community wikis match the location to Homestead Correctional Institution in south Miami-Dade, the overall design to New River Correctional Institution and the watchtowers to Wakulla Correctional Institution. Dexerto also points to Homestead. rumor
Will you go to prison in GTA 6?
Not announced. The one rule so far comes from Rob Nelson’s Famitsu interview: you can lose the cash you are carrying if you are killed or arrested, so bank it. reported Nobody has described what an arrest looks like after that, or shown the penitentiary as anything but a story location.
Precedent. In GTA V and the 3D-era games, getting busted meant respawning outside a police station, not serving time. Six stars on the HUD and a detailed prison in the story do not by themselves mean GTA 6 changes that. The jail explainer and the wanted level guide track it.
Still unknown
- Lucia’s crime and the length of her sentence.
- Whether her release comes with conditions, such as parole, and whether they affect play.
- Whether the story returns to the prison for a visit, a job or a breakout.
- Whether you can drive up to it freely once the map opens.
