What GTA 6 itself asks of a TV
Nothing specific yet. Rockstar has published no frame rate, resolution or HDR details for any console, and neither store listing mentions a graphics mode. not announced The one report says the consoles ran the game at 30 fps during development, and Digital Foundry measured the Extended Look, which Rockstar captured on a PS5, at a native 1440p upscaled to 4K. reported The PlayStation Store adds a "PS5 Pro Enhanced" label without saying what it changes. official The detail is on GTA 6 frame rate on PS5, Pro and Xbox.
So buy a TV for what the consoles can do. A 4K HDR set shows everything a PS5 or Series X puts out today. HDMI 2.1 and 120 Hz will not change how GTA 6 looks at 30 fps, but they matter for other games and for any performance mode Rockstar adds later.
What matters for PS5 and Xbox
| Feature | Why it matters | What to look for |
|---|---|---|
| 4K | PS5, PS5 Pro and Series X output 4K. Microsoft says the Series S targets 1440p and can upscale to 4K. | Any 4K TV. A 1440p screen is enough for a Series S. |
| HDR | Sony says supported PS5 games show a wider range of color on an HDR TV. Microsoft says the Series X|S were the first consoles to support gaming in Dolby Vision. | HDR10 at minimum. Dolby Vision for games is an Xbox feature; Sony's PS5 page lists HDR, not Dolby Vision. |
| HDMI 2.1 with 4K at 120 Hz | Sony lists up to 120 fps, with 120 Hz output on 4K displays, in compatible PS5 games. Microsoft lists up to 120 FPS and an HDMI 2.1 port on the Series X. | At least one input rated for 4K at 120 Hz, or two if you own both consoles. |
| VRR | Variable refresh rate smooths out frame rate dips in games that support it. Microsoft lists HDMI VRR on both Series consoles. | "VRR" listed on the HDMI 2.1 inputs. |
| ALLM and game mode | Auto Low Latency Mode switches the TV to its low-lag game mode when a console starts. Microsoft lists ALLM on both Series consoles. | "ALLM" or "Auto Low Latency Mode" on the spec sheet. |
Makers rarely publish input lag figures, and none of our three TV picks does on the pages we read. What you control is game mode: Hisense's own manual says its game mode reduces input lag, and the other two makers list an equivalent. Turn it on whatever TV you buy.
What does not matter much
- Refresh rates above 120 Hz. Sony and Microsoft both list up to 120 fps, so a 144 Hz or 165 Hz panel runs a console at 120 Hz at most. LG's own footnote says the C6's 165 Hz needs a PC with a graphics card that outputs it.
- Four fast ports. One 4K 120 Hz input per console is enough. Do check which inputs have it, because some TVs mix fast and slow ports (the TCL below does).
- 8K. Rockstar has not announced any resolution for GTA 6, let alone 8K.
Our TV picks, from the spec sheets
We do not rank these by price: Amazon's prices move every day and we never print them, so open each listing for today's price. All three have 4K, HDR, VRR, ALLM and 4K inputs above 60 Hz, according to their makers. The LG link is the 55-inch model; the Hisense and TCL links are 65-inch.
LG C6 OLED (55-inch): the OLED pick
- 4K OLED panel, 120 Hz native, with VRR up to 165 Hz (LG).
- Four HDMI inputs; LG lists 4K at 120 Hz, VRR and ALLM on them, with eARC for a soundbar on HDMI 2.
- Dolby Vision, HDR10 and HLG, plus an HGIG mode and LG's Game Optimizer for games.
- G-Sync Compatible and AMD FreeSync Premium, which matter more for a PC than a console.
Suits a darker room and anyone who wants OLED's self-lit pixels. LG says its OLED Care features help protect the panel over time.
Hisense U8 (65-inch): the bright Mini-LED pick
- Mini-LED with full array local dimming; Hisense quotes up to 5,000 nits peak brightness and an anti-glare, low-reflection panel.
- 165 Hz native panel with VRR from 48 Hz to 165 Hz, AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and ALLM (Hisense).
- Dolby Vision IQ, HDR10+, HDR10 and HLG.
- HDMI 2.1, but Hisense's product page does not say how many inputs run 4K at 120 Hz. Its U8 manual says to plug a high-refresh console into the port labeled 4K 120Hz.
Suits a bright living room and a bigger screen.
TCL QM7L (65-inch): the second Mini-LED pick
- Mini-LED with a 144 Hz panel (TCL).
- Four HDMI 2.1 ports, but only HDMI 1 and 2 run 4K at 144 Hz. HDMI 3 and 4 stop at 4K 60 Hz, and eARC is on HDMI 4.
- ALLM, VRR and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro.
- Dolby Vision IQ, HDR10, HDR10+ and HLG.
Mind the ports: put the consoles on HDMI 1 and 2 and a soundbar on HDMI 4. That covers a PS5, an Xbox and a soundbar, with no fast port to spare.

Would a monitor do?
Yes, as long as it has the right HDMI port. Consoles connect over HDMI, so a monitor's DisplayPort and its top PC refresh rate do nothing for a PS5 or Xbox. Look for HDMI 2.1 and a maker statement about 4K at 120 Hz for consoles. A Series S targets 1440p, per Microsoft, so a 1440p monitor is enough for it.
ASUS TUF Gaming VG27UQ1A (27-inch)
- 27-inch 4K Fast IPS panel, up to 160 Hz, HDR10.
- Two HDMI 2.1 ports and one DisplayPort 1.4. ASUS says it supports up to 4K 120 Hz via HDMI 2.1 without chroma subsampling for consoles, with VRR and Auto Low Latency.
- Two 2 W speakers and an earphone jack. ASUS lists a DisplayPort cable in the box, not HDMI, so use your console's HDMI cable.
LG UltraGear 27G810A-B (27-inch)
- 27-inch 4K IPS panel with a Dual Mode: 180 Hz at 4K or 360 Hz at 1080p.
- Two HDMI ports with HDMI 2.1, one DisplayPort 1.4, VRR, HDR10 and VESA DisplayHDR 400.
- A headphone out and no speakers on LG's spec sheet. LG's page does not spell out 4K at 120 Hz from a console, so ASUS is the safer pick if that matters to you.
Monitor speakers are small or missing, so plan the sound too: see the best headset for GTA 6.
Set it up before pre-load on November 12
- Use the fast input. Plug the console into a port the TV maker rates for 4K at 120 Hz. On the TCL QM7L that is HDMI 1 or 2; Hisense's manual says to use the port labeled 4K 120Hz.
- Use the console's own HDMI cable. Microsoft includes an Ultra High Speed HDMI cable with the Series X|S, and Hisense's manual recommends the cable that came with your console or an Ultra High Speed one. If you need a longer cable, buy one sold as Ultra High Speed (our suggestion).
- Turn on game mode, or leave ALLM on. LG groups its game settings under Game Optimizer, Hisense's manual says its PC/Game picture mode reduces input lag, and TCL lists Auto Game Mode (ALLM).
- Run the console's HDR adjustment once. PS5 and Xbox Series X|S both have an HDR calibration screen in their video settings. On the LG C6, LG lists an HGIG mode for HDR games.
Then clear space for the download, which is not announced yet; see how to add an SSD to PS5 for GTA 6 and the GTA 6 file size tracker.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best TV for GTA 6?
One with 4K, HDR and at least one HDMI 2.1 input rated for 4K at 120 Hz, plus VRR and ALLM. Rockstar has not announced GTA 6's frame rate or resolution, so buy for what a PS5 or Xbox Series X can output. Going by the makers' spec sheets, the LG C6 OLED, the Hisense U8 and the TCL QM7L all tick those boxes. We have not tested them.
Do I need a 4K TV for GTA 6?
No. GTA 6 will play on any TV your console supports. A 4K HDR TV simply shows the most detail a PS5, PS5 Pro or Series X puts out. Rockstar has not announced a resolution; Digital Foundry measured the Extended Look at 1440p upscaled to 4K, which is reported analysis of one video, not a launch spec.
Do I need HDMI 2.1 for GTA 6?
Not for anything announced. HDMI 2.1 carries 4K at 120 Hz and HDMI VRR, and GTA 6 has no announced 60 fps or 120 Hz mode; the consoles reportedly ran it at 30 fps during development. It is still worth having for other games and for any mode Rockstar adds later.
Will GTA 6 run at 120 Hz?
Not announced. Rockstar has announced no performance mode, VRR support or 120 Hz output for any console. The PS5 and Xbox Series X|S can output up to 120 fps in games that support it, according to Sony and Microsoft.
Is an OLED TV a risk with GTA 6's HUD?
We have not tested it and make no burn-in claims of our own. GTA 6 does keep a HUD on screen, including the six-star wanted meter seen in Rockstar's footage. LG says the C6 has OLED Care features to help protect the panel over time; its spec page does not list them one by one.
Can I play GTA 6 on a gaming monitor?
Yes. Consoles connect over HDMI, so look for HDMI 2.1 and a maker statement about 4K at 120 Hz for consoles; ASUS makes that statement for the TUF Gaming VG27UQ1A. Microsoft says the Series S targets 1440p, so a 1440p monitor is enough for that console.
