What is GTA+, and do you need it for GTA 6?

What GTA+ is

GTA+ is a monthly membership Rockstar launched in March 2022 for GTA Online on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. It reached PC with GTA V Enhanced in March 2025. It works only in GTA Online, the multiplayer side of GTA V, and it has nothing to do with GTA 6's story.

It costs $7.99 a month in the US, £6.99 in the UK, €7.99 in the eurozone, CA$10.99 in Canada, AU$11.95 in Australia and NZ$12.95 in New Zealand, going by the PlayStation Store's GTA+ listings on September 23, 2026. official That is $95.88 a year in the US if you never cancel.

What GTA+ gives you today

Benefits change every month. The core, as Game Rant listed it in June 2026: reported

• GTA$500,000 every month, paid into your GTA Online account.
• Member discounts on selected in-game items each month, and 15% bonus GTA$ on Shark Card purchases.
• Bonus GTA$ on selected missions and activities.
• The Vinewood Car Club, where members claim free vehicles and can store up to 100 cars.
• The GTA+ Games Library: Red Dead Redemption, GTA: The Trilogy (Definitive Edition), Bully, GTA: Liberty City Stories, L.A. Noire and GTA: Chinatown Wars, playable while you stay a member.

Every perk is for GTA V and GTA Online, or for the older games in the library. None carries into GTA 6.

Do you need GTA+ for GTA 6?

No. GTA 6 launches on November 19, 2026 as a single-player game; the PlayStation listing says "1 player" with "Offline play enabled." official Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said on September 17, 2026 that there is "no recurrent consumer spending anticipated with regard to this launch." You also do not need PlayStation Plus or any Xbox Game Pass tier to play a single-player game. That could change if Rockstar adds an online mode later; see GTA 6 Online.

The free month with GTA 6 pre-orders

Take-Two's pre-order announcement promised "a free month of GTA+ for digital pre-orders," "instantly redeemable" so players can jump into GTA V now. official The terms differ by store:

The month starts when you redeem it, not at GTA 6's launch, and existing members can stack it onto their current membership. Both stores allow one redemption per platform account, and Rockstar says refunding and pre-ordering again does not earn a second month. Auto-renew and refunds

The free month rolls into a paid one unless you stop it. Sony's store page says the offer "auto-renews," and its cancellation policy says turning off renewal "will stop future subscription fees being taken, but you will not receive a refund for payments already made." official The 14-day refund window only covers an initial subscription purchase, so do not count on getting a renewal back.

Is GTA+ worth paying for?

Only if you play GTA Online most weeks. The monthly GTA$ and the free cars are real value for regulars, and the game library is a bonus. If you are buying GTA 6 for the story, take the free month, try GTA Online if you like, and cancel. Whether GTA+ will ever extend to a GTA 6 online mode is unknown. not announced
