Trailer 1 (December 4, 2023)
Trailer 1 was scheduled for 9 AM Eastern on December 5, 2023, but a leaked copy spread on X the evening before, so Rockstar posted it about 15 hours early.
It runs 91 seconds, is set to Tom Petty's "Love Is a Long Road," and opens on Lucia in a prison counselor's office. The rest is a fast cut of Leonida: the beach, the Keys, a feed of viral "Florida Man" clips, and a liquor store hold-up with Jason. It ended on "Coming 2025," a date that later slipped twice. Trailer 2 (May 6, 2025)
Trailer 2 arrived unannounced four days after the first delay, with new screenshots and a relaunched official site carrying character and region pages. It introduces Jason Duval properly, shows Lucia walking out of prison into his car, and gives much of the supporting cast a moment, from Brian Heder and Cal Hampton to the Real Dimez. It uses five songs, led by the Pointer Sisters' "Hot Together." Rockstar says it was captured entirely in-game on a PlayStation 5, half gameplay and half cutscenes. An Extended Look (August 27, 2026)
YouTube age-restricts this one, so the player opens it on YouTube, which may ask you to sign in. It also plays at rockstargames.com and on Netflix.
This is the gameplay reveal. Rockstar announced it on August 6, 2026 with a 26-second teaser, premiered it on Netflix at 3 PM Eastern on August 27, then posted it to YouTube and its own site at 9 PM Eastern.
It follows Jason and Lucia through four jobs: a drug-lab pickup that turns into a police raid, a rooftop meeting with Brian and Lori Heder, a getaway for Raul Bautista across the causeways, and a security job at the Megamundo headquarters opening. Along the way it shows the six-star wanted level, character switching, the phone apps and a long list of activities. The Extended Look breakdown has a timestamped sequence guide and all 14 songs.
The view numbers, with the caveats
- Trailer 1: more than 93 million YouTube views in 24 hours, beating the 59.4 million non-music record held by MrBeast, and more than 120 million within 72 hours (Variety). YouTube-only and easy to check.
- Trailer 2: 475 million views in 24 hours, a Rockstar figure that counts every platform the trailer was posted on, not only YouTube (TechRadar, citing The Hollywood Reporter). It is not comparable with Trailer 1's YouTube-only number.
- An Extended Look: 31.1 million Netflix views from August 27 to 30 and the top spot in Netflix's movie rankings in 58 countries, plus more than 17.7 million YouTube views within days (Engadget, citing Netflix's chart).
For a like-for-like comparison, the YouTube counters on September 23, 2026 read about 296 million for Trailer 1, 183 million for Trailer 2 and 29 million for the Extended Look. The older videos have had years longer to collect views.
What each video confirmed
- Trailer 1: Vice City and the state of Leonida, Lucia as a protagonist, a modern setting with phones and social media, and a 2025 window that did not hold.
- Trailer 2: Jason Duval by name, the supporting cast with official bios, six named regions, PS5 capture, and the May 26, 2026 date that later moved to November 19, 2026.
- An Extended Look: how the game plays. Six wanted stars with evidence icons, character switching, the Ryde Me taxi app, the WAINK car scanner, store robberies and activities, with the Criminal Profile and body system described in previews the same day. It gave Lori Heder her first real screen time, introduced Valentina, Andrés de León and Petra Navarro, and put the task-force cop Mendez front and center. The GTA 6 gameplay hub covers each system.
What to watch next
Before the Extended Look aired, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick told GamesIndustry.biz the Netflix showcase was "one of the hors d'oeuvres," adding: "There's appetizers, main course and dessert to follow." So more video is likely before launch, though none is scheduled (checked September 28, 2026). When it lands, the Trailer 3 page and the launch trailer page update first.
The next dated drop is not a trailer. Beware fake trailer notifications. Every few weeks a doctored "Trailer 3 out now" alert or a re-cut fan trailer goes viral. Rockstar announces videos on its Newswire and social accounts first. How many GTA 6 trailers are there?
Two numbered trailers and one 26-minute gameplay showcase. Trailer 1 arrived December 4, 2023, Trailer 2 on May 6, 2025, and "Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look" premiered August 27, 2026 on Netflix and then YouTube. Rockstar has never labeled anything "Trailer 3."

Is the Extended Look Trailer 3?
Not officially. Rockstar's site lists it as "An Extended Look," separate from Trailer 1 and Trailer 2. A shorter launch trailer before November 19, 2026 is widely expected but not announced.
Was the GTA 6 trailer footage real gameplay?
Rockstar says Trailer 2 was captured entirely in-game on a PlayStation 5, half gameplay and half cutscenes, and that the Extended Look was captured entirely from in-game footage on PS5. Digital Foundry measured the Extended Look at native 1440p upscaled to 4K, at 30 frames per second.
