The premise, in Rockstar's words
Rockstar's official summary is short. Jason and Lucia have always known the odds were stacked against them. Then an easy score goes wrong, and they land on what Rockstar calls "the darkest side of the sunniest place in America," in the middle of a criminal conspiracy that stretches across Leonida. To get out alive, they have to rely on each other more than ever. official
That is all Rockstar has said about the plot itself. Which job is the "easy score," what the conspiracy is and who is behind it have not been revealed.
Who Jason and Lucia are
Both leads have official bios, paraphrased here. official
- Lucia Caminos learned to fight from her father almost as soon as she could walk. Fighting for her family put her in Leonida Penitentiary; luck got her out. Her mother has chased the good life since the family's Liberty City days, and Lucia means to take it, with Jason as her way there. Her prison past is covered on GTA 6 jail and arrests.
- Jason Duval grew up around con artists and crooks, tried the Army to get away from it, and ended up running product for drug smugglers in the Keys. He is after a quiet, easy life, and it keeps slipping further away. Rockstar says meeting Lucia could be the best or the worst thing that ever happened to him.
The Bonnie and Clyde framing
The comparison predates any trailer. In July 2022, Bloomberg's Jason Schreier reported that the game would have a Latina lead as half of a Bonnie and Clyde-inspired pair. reported Four years later Rockstar used the phrase itself: Rupert Humphries, its senior vice president of narrative, told Dazed that GTA 6 is "a Bonnie and Clyde-type narrative." reported
The real Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow robbed their way across the central United States in the early 1930s and died together in a police ambush in Louisiana in May 1934. That ending is why fans read the framing as ominous. It is our note on history, not a hint from Rockstar, which has said nothing about how GTA 6 ends.
Rob Nelson told Famitsu the romance is the player's call: Jason and Lucia can go through the story as a couple or simply as accomplices. reported How that works is on the relationship page.

Where and when
The story plays out across Leonida, Rockstar's version of Florida: Vice City, the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga. official Every trailer is full of smartphones, livestreams and social feeds, so it is set in the present day, though Rockstar has not named a year. The 1980s Vice City of the 2002 game is history here; our Vice City history page covers what changed.
The cast around them
Rockstar published bios for eight characters in May 2025. The Extended Look added more, without bios.

What the trailers and Extended Look show
These are scenes Rockstar has published. official Rockstar has not said where they fall in the story or whether the missions appear in this order.
- Trailer 1 (December 2023). Lucia in an orange jumpsuit, talking to a corrections counselor. Later, she and Jason rob Uncle Jack's Liquor in masks.
- Trailer 2 (May 2025). Jason fixing up his stilt house in the Keys, then picking Lucia up as she walks out of Leonida Penitentiary. Brian, Cal and the Real Dimez are on screen, and recaps spot more of the supporting cast.
- The Venture Apartments. In the Extended Look, a pickup for Boobie Ike turns into an escape when Mendez's task force raids the building.
- Effluvia. Jason and Lucia meet Brian and Lori at a rooftop bar, where Brian says his contact wants to employ only one of the pair (per the gta.wiki synopsis). Engadget's recap adds that the two briefly discuss who takes it before Lucia stands up, "leaving Jason with the gig"; the synopsis leaves that out. reported
- Raul's getaway. Lucia drives Raul Bautista away from a robbery in Vice Beach while Jason and Raul shoot at police. The crew torches the car, switches to a van, and Raul pays Jason before leaving on the back of a scooter.
- Hank's Waffles. Jason and Lucia rob the diner, a scene the Extended Look shows only briefly.
- Megamundo. Valentina hires the pair as security for the media company's headquarters opening. Gunmen posing as maintenance workers attack the party and seize Andrés de León, Jason fights his way to him, and the video cuts away as Lucia falls into an elevator shaft.
- The ending of the video. A closing speech over a montage that includes a scene on the water, which Engadget reads as a fishing trip, telling the listener that right now, before the trouble ahead, are their "glory days." Recaps credit it to Cal; we have not confirmed the speaker against the footage.

What nobody knows yet
- The conspiracy. What it is, who runs it, and how far across Leonida it reaches.
- The easy score. Which job goes wrong. Fans have guesses; Rockstar has not said.
- Lucia's release. Her bio credits luck. What that luck was is not explained.
- Mendez. He leads the task-force raid in the Extended Look. Fan recaps read a shared history between him and the couple; Rockstar has not explained who he is.
- Endings. How many there are, and how much the relationship decides.
- Links to other games. Engadget reads a livestream feed in the Extended Look as a nod to Lifeinvader, GTA V's social network, and the Ultimate Edition copy names the Vercetti Estate. Fans also identify Valentina as the character of that name from GTA Online; Rockstar has not said so. Whether any returning character plays a real part is unknown.
