GTA 6 on Xbox Series X and Series S

Series X and Series S both launch day one

The Microsoft Store listing marks GTA 6 "Optimized for Xbox Series X|S", Microsoft's label for both current consoles, and it has taken pre-orders since June 25, 2026. There is no separate Series S date and no announced Series S compromise such as a lower resolution. That silence covers every console, though: Rockstar has published no performance details at all. GTA 6 on Xbox Series S covers what the cheaper console is likely to trade off.

The listing also shows "Single player" and 13 supported languages. Single player means no crossplay question at launch: there is no multiplayer to cross. It also carries Microsoft's "Offers in-app purchases" notice without saying what is sold; the $20 Ultimate upgrade is the only add-on announced so far.

The one frame-rate data point applies to both machines. According to YouTuber Davy Jones, Rob Nelson, co-studio head at Rockstar North, said the consoles were running the game at 30 fps during development and that 60 fps was a question for the technical team. reported Rockstar says its gameplay showcase was captured on PS5, so Xbox players have not yet seen footage from their own hardware. Not on Xbox yet? You do not need a disc drive: the boxed game is a download code, so the all-digital Series X Digital Edition and both Series S models play it. The Series S storage math

This is the practical Xbox question. Rockstar has not announced an install size, and no store lists one. The range most often quoted is 150 to 200 GB, a rumor based on Red Dead Redemption 2 (about 150 GB) and GTA V (over 100 GB with updates).

The usable figures come from GamesRadar (November 4, 2020) for the 512 GB Series S and the Series X, and from TechRadar's Series S 1 TB review (November 8, 2024), which says roughly 800 GB. Microsoft does not publish them.

Series X|S games must run from the internal SSD or an official Storage Expansion Card, which Seagate and SanDisk make. A USB drive can store them but not run them (more on playing from an external drive). The free fix on a 512 GB Series S: move your other Series games to a USB drive before pre-load opens on November 12 and keep the internal SSD for GTA 6. If moving games is not enough, a card adds space GTA 6 can run from. We have not tested one; by its listing, SanDisk's Optimus GX C50 is officially licensed for Xbox Series X|S, games play directly from it, and it comes in 1 TB and 2 TB. It plugs into the back of either console.

Game Pass

GTA 6 is not on Xbox Game Pass. When we re-checked the Microsoft Store listing on September 28, 2026, it did not include the game in any Game Pass plan. official Reporting has consistently said there is no day-one deal, and neither Microsoft nor Take-Two has announced one. reported At Take-Two's September 17, 2026 annual meeting, CEO Strauss Zelnick described the launch as a single-player experience on two major platforms. Take-Two has put older GTA games on Game Pass and taken them off again over the years, so a later arrival is possible, but nothing points to it. To play on November 19, you buy the game.

Streaming and PC access are not announced either. Neither Xbox Cloud Gaming nor Xbox Play Anywhere, Microsoft's buy-once program for Xbox and Windows PC, has been announced for GTA 6, so you need a Series X or Series S console to play it. not announced

Are Xbox pre-orders behind PS5?

Nobody has published numbers. On September 24, 2026 The Verge's Tom Warren reported that sources at Xbox say GTA 6 pre-orders skew heavily toward PS5. The same day, Xbox chief strategy officer Matthew Ball replied on X that GTA VI is breaking records for Xbox and that internal analysis shows Xbox's share of pre-orders matching its share of the console market. Circana analyst Mat Piscatella questioned that upbeat framing. reported The two claims do not have to conflict: a PS5 skew fits Ball's point if PS5 holds the bigger share of the console market (our reading). Pre-ordering on Xbox

• Editions. The Microsoft Store sells the $79.99 Standard and $99.99 Ultimate editions, plus the $20 Ultimate Edition Upgrade for Standard owners. Compare them on GTA 6 editions, and see the GTA 6 price in the UK, Europe and Japan for other regions.
• Bonus. The listing says to purchase before 23:59:59 on November 19, 2026 to get the Vintage Vice City Pack and one month of GTA+. official
• GTA+. The month is for digital Standard or Ultimate purchases. Redeem it in the Offers & Credits section of the Microsoft Store within 180 days of buying; you do not have to wait for launch. It is limited to one per platform account, and the listing says child accounts with restrictions on age-restricted content cannot redeem it. • Cancelling. Xbox Support says you can cancel a pre-order in your Microsoft account's order history up to 10 days before launch, and card pre-orders are charged around then. After that you have to request a refund, which is not guaranteed. See how to cancel and refund a GTA 6 pre-order.
• Physical. Boxed Xbox copies are the Standard Edition with a download code inside, no disc, so a drive-less Series S can use them. Rockstar says Xbox codes are not region-locked. Physical copies do not include the GTA+ month. See the physical edition and where to pre-order GTA 6.

Smart Delivery does not come into it: there is only one Xbox version and no Xbox One edition to upgrade from. No Xbox-branded GTA 6 controller or console bundle has been announced; the only official controller is Sony's Limited Edition DualSense, and GTA 6 bundles tracks any that appear.

The fake 676.7 GB Xbox listing

The screenshot that claimed GTA 6 needs 676.7 GB was a doctored image of an Xbox Store listing, posted on X on December 24, 2025, and a parody account recycled it in June 2026. reported It was never a real store page, placeholder or otherwise. One giveaway: it listed Xbox One, a console GTA 6 is not coming to. GTA 6 file size covers the hoax and the credible estimates.
