Is GTA 6 coming to Nintendo Switch 2?

What Rockstar and Take-Two have said

Rockstar's official site lists two platforms for GTA 6: PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Nothing on Newswire, in a trailer or on a store page mentions Nintendo. At Take-Two's annual meeting on September 17, 2026, CEO Strauss Zelnick described the launch as a single-player experience on two major platforms.

The closest thing to a Switch 2 comment came earlier. On Take-Two's earnings call in February 2025, Zelnick was asked about Switch 2 in general. He said Nintendo hardware used to skew young, that the Switch can now serve any audience, and that while the company had "nothing specific to report", it would fully expect to support Switch 2 (reported by Forbes). reported He did not mention GTA 6. That is a statement about Take-Two's catalog, not a hint about Rockstar's next game.

The rumors, rated

Nash Weedle said other insiders backed him up but named none, and Vice noted that neither Rockstar nor Nintendo had confirmed anything. NateTheHate's own framing was cautious: a test is exploration, not a greenlit port. Neither claim names a porting studio or comes with anything that press have been able to verify.

What a former GTA 6 developer says

Jeremy Hartvick, a former Rockstar developer who worked on GTA 6 until 2020, does not think a Switch 2 version makes sense. He said so in a members-only Kiwi Talkz interview, which Dexerto reported on September 24, 2026. His reasoning: he is not sure GTA 6's audience is the Switch audience, and a weaker port makes little sense when fans will simply buy a PS5 to play it. reported

Weigh it for what it is. Hartvick left the project six years before launch, so this is an informed opinion, not knowledge of Rockstar's current plans. It does not change the status: a Switch 2 version is not announced, and not ruled out either.

Rockstar's Nintendo record (precedent)

The pattern is plain. Apart from handheld spin-offs like Chinatown Wars, Rockstar brings older games to Nintendo years after release, and it has never put a current flagship there. Red Dead Redemption on Switch 2 does prove Rockstar has working tools for the hardware, including Nvidia's DLSS upscaling. It does not prove GTA 6 is next. GTA V, the most obvious candidate for a Switch port of the last decade, never got one.

Could Switch 2 run GTA 6? (our reading)

It would be a very hard port. By a YouTuber's account, Rob Nelson, co-studio head at Rockstar North, said the consoles were running GTA 6 at 30 fps during development, and Digital Foundry's analysis of the base PS5 footage pointed at the CPU as a big part of that limit. reported A handheld has far less CPU and GPU headroom than a PS5, so a Switch 2 version would need deep cuts on top of DLSS. Even the Xbox Series S, a much stronger machine, is expected to trade away resolution (see GTA 6 on Xbox Series S). A port is not impossible, but it would be the kind of long, separate project the Nash Weedle rumor describes, not a launch-window release.

A warning about "GTA Switch" downloads

Rockstar's Mod Guidelines, dated September 10, 2026, tell modders not to make its games run on consoles or devices where Rockstar has not officially released them. Coverage linked that rule to fan projects such as a GTA V build for Switch. reported Any site offering GTA 6 for Switch or Switch 2 today is selling something that does not exist; do not download or pay for it. What would change this page

• A Rockstar Newswire post or a Nintendo Direct segment naming a Switch 2 version.
• A Switch 2 listing on the Nintendo eShop or Rockstar's own site.
• A Take-Two earnings release or SEC filing that lists Switch 2 for GTA 6.
