Every GTA 6 delay
| Announced | Moved from | Moved to | Rockstar's words |
|---|---|---|---|
| May 2, 2025 | Fall 2025 | Tuesday, May 26, 2026 | "We are very sorry that this is later than you expected." |
| Nov 6, 2025 | May 26, 2026 | Thursday, November 19, 2026 | "We are sorry for adding additional time to what we realize has been a long wait." |
Delay 1: fall 2025 to May 26, 2026
Trailer 1 promised the game for 2025, and on May 16, 2024 Take-Two narrowed that to fall of calendar 2025. On Friday, May 2, 2025, four days before Trailer 2, Rockstar moved it to May 26, 2026. Its statement apologized that the date was "later than you expected" and gave one reason: the team needed "this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve." official
Take-Two filed the news with the SEC the same day. CEO Strauss Zelnick said the company would "support fully Rockstar Games taking additional time to realize their creative vision," and Take-Two said it still expected record net bookings in fiscal 2026 and 2027. The new date fell in fiscal 2027, which runs April 2026 to March 2027.
Delay 2: May 26 to November 19, 2026
The second move came on November 6, 2025, the day of Take-Two's quarterly results, six and a half months before the May date. Rockstar said sorry "for adding additional time to what we realize has been a long wait" and said the extra months would let it finish the game "with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve." Take-Two's earnings release put it flatly: Rockstar "will now release Grand Theft Auto VI on November 19, 2026." official
The new date is a Thursday, a week before US Thanksgiving. Why Rockstar picked it is on the GTA 6 release date page.
How often Take-Two has repeated November 19
Take-Two is a public company, so its written guidance is the firmest signal outside Rockstar itself. It has repeated the date at every earnings release since the second delay:
| Date | Where | What it said |
|---|---|---|
| Feb 3, 2026 | Q3 fiscal 2026 release | Record net bookings expected in fiscal 2027, with "the highly anticipated launch of Grand Theft Auto VI on November 19th" |
| May 21, 2026 | Q4 fiscal 2026 release | November 19, 2026 in the release schedule; fiscal 2027 outlook of $8.0–8.2 billion in net bookings |
| Aug 7, 2026 | Q1 fiscal 2027 release | "With these positive trends and excitement around the November 19th launch of Grand Theft Auto VI, we are reiterating our Fiscal 2027 Net Bookings outlook of $8.0 to $8.2 billion." |
| Sept 17, 2026 | Annual shareholder meeting | Zelnick: GTA 6 launches November 19 as a single-player game on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S (our report) |
Rockstar has added its own signals. Responding to the August 2026 leaks, it said the team was "nearly there" and hoped fans would wait to play on November 19 (full statement). Pre-orders opened June 25 with a bonus for every purchase made before November 20, physical boxes and pre-load arrive November 12, and Sony and Atlantic Records have both dated products for launch day. On September 24 Rockstar added one of its own: a $399.99 Collector's Box of merchandise, without the game, that ships from November 19.
What reporters and analysts say
The one serious wobble came in January 2026. On a podcast, Bloomberg's Jason Schreier said it was hard to say whether the game would hit November 19. On the afternoon of January 8 he posted that Take-Two stock was down 4.26% on rumors drawn from a podcast "in which I did not say that GTA6 would be delayed," adding that another delay is always possible for a video game. reported Four weeks later, Take-Two's February 3 release repeated the date.
Since then no credible outlet has reported a third delay. Analysts now argue about how much the game will sell, not when: Piper Sandler's September 2026 note is about launch-window units, not timing (see GTA 6 sales forecasts). Take-Two's own $8.0–8.2 billion outlook for the year ending March 31, 2027 depends on the game shipping in that year.
Rockstar's delay record
Delays are normal for Rockstar. What matters is when they happen.
| Game | Delays | Final date held? |
|---|---|---|
| Grand Theft Auto V | One. On January 31, 2013, spring 2013 became September 17, 2013: "It simply needs a little more polish to be of the standard we and, more importantly, you require." | Yes |
| Red Dead Redemption 2 | Two. On May 23, 2017, fall 2017 became spring 2018; on February 1, 2018, spring became October 26, 2018. | Yes |
| Grand Theft Auto VI | Two. May 2, 2025 and November 6, 2025. | To be seen on November 19, 2026 |
Once GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 had a firm day and month, they shipped on it. GTA 6 is the exception so far: May 26, 2026 was a firm date and it moved, but with six and a half months of notice. Both of its delays came well before launch. A delay now would come less than eight weeks out, after pre-orders, a pre-load date, partner products and Rockstar's own merchandise were all locked in.
The honest answer
A third delay is very unlikely. That is our reading, not an announcement, but every piece of evidence points one way. Rockstar says it is nearly finished, Take-Two has bet its financial year on the date in four public statements, and the launch machinery (pre-load, physical boxes, the pre-order bonus cutoff, a DualSense, a soundtrack album and the Collector's Box) is scheduled around November 19.
The next milestone that would settle it is Rockstar announcing the game has gone gold, meaning the launch version is finished. Take-Two's next quarterly results, which usually come in early November, are the other checkpoint. If the date ever moves again, expect a Take-Two SEC filing the same day, as with both earlier delays.
What to do next: plan for November 19. Pre-load opens November 12; follow how to pre-load GTA 6, and check the unlock time for your region. Every other milestone since 2013 is on the GTA 6 timeline.

Frequently asked questions
Has GTA 6 been delayed again?
No. As of September 26, 2026 there is no third delay, and no credible outlet has reported one. The date is Thursday, November 19, 2026. Take-Two repeated it in its February 3, May 21 and August 7, 2026 earnings releases and at its September 17 shareholder meeting.
How many times has GTA 6 been delayed?
Twice. On May 2, 2025 it moved from fall 2025 to May 26, 2026. On November 6, 2025 it moved again, to November 19, 2026.
Why was GTA 6 delayed?
Rockstar gave the same reason both times: more time to finish the game to the standard players expect. In May 2025 it said it needed "this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve." In November 2025 it said the extra months would let it finish the game "with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve." It gave no other reason.
Could GTA 6 still be delayed?
In theory any game can slip, but nothing points to it. Pre-orders have been open since June 25, pre-load starts November 12, Sony and Atlantic Records have products dated November 19, and Rockstar's own Collector's Box ships from that day. Rockstar said on August 26 the team was "nearly there." Both earlier delays were announced months ahead, not with launch less than eight weeks away.
Where would a GTA 6 delay be announced first?
On Rockstar's own channels (its Newswire and social accounts) and in a Take-Two filing with the SEC the same day. Both previous delays came that way. A delay reported only by an anonymous account, with no Take-Two filing, is not a delay.
Did the August 2026 leaks delay GTA 6?
No. Rockstar responded to the leaked clips on August 26, 2026 by saying it was busy getting the game finished and hoped players would wait to experience it on November 19. Take-Two repeated the date again on September 17.
What changed on this page
- Re-checked on September 26: still no third delay. Added Rockstar's own Collector's Box, which went on pre-order September 24 and ships from November 19, to the signals that the date is locked in, and the days-to-launch count now updates itself.
