Is GTA 6 crossplay? No multiplayer at launch, so no

Why crossplay does not apply at launch

Crossplay means players on different platforms sharing one online session. GTA 6 has no online sessions at launch. The PlayStation Store lists it as "1 player" with "Offline play enabled," and the Microsoft Store lists "Single player." official Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick described the November 19 release as "a single player experience on two major platforms" at the company's annual meeting on September 17, 2026. official

So a PS5 owner and an Xbox owner can both play GTA 6 on launch night, but each plays their own story. Nobody plays with anyone else, on any platform, until Rockstar adds an online mode.

What about GTA 6 Online?

Rockstar has not announced an online mode, a date, a player count or crossplay. not announced Two reported hints point to multiplayer later:

• A 32-player format. In the IWGB employment tribunal, Rockstar said former staff had discussed "an online 32 player format" for a confidential project. reported That indicates a design existed; it says nothing about which platforms would share lobbies.
• "Next year." Twitch CEO Dan Clancy told Bloomberg multiplayer launches next year, after talks with Rockstar. reported He did not mention crossplay.

Precedent: what GTA Online does today

GTA Online launched on October 1, 2013, two weeks after GTA V, and in 13 years it has never offered crossplay between PlayStation, Xbox and PC. You play with people on your own platform. When the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions arrived in March 2022, and the Enhanced PC version in March 2025, Rockstar added ways to carry your progress forward, not ways to mix platforms.

That history makes crossplay in a GTA 6 online mode far from certain, but it is not a promise either way. If Rockstar announces crossplay, it will come on the Newswire, and we will update this page the same day.

Playing with friends on launch night

What you can share at launch is the experience, not a session. Both consoles let you stream or share clips, and PS5 Remote Play is supported. official If a friend is on the other console, you are still in the same place: each of you plays alone. The free month of GTA+ that comes with digital pre-orders is for the existing GTA Online in GTA V, where you can play with people on your own platform; see what GTA+ is.
