What Rockstar and Take-Two have said
The official site lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S and nothing else. No Newswire post, trailer or press release has mentioned PC. GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 were also console-only through their launch windows.
We re-checked on September 28, 2026. Rockstar's newest GTA VI post on Newswire, from September 24, is about the Collector's Box merchandise. The newest GTA VI article on Rockstar Support, from September 17, is about the album. Take-Two has filed nothing with the SEC since September 22, and recent news coverage of a PC version is speculation only. The status has not changed: not announced.
At Take-Two's annual shareholder meeting on September 17, 2026, CEO Strauss Zelnick said PC is "more and more important" to the business and, as Inven Global reported it, that Take-Two generally aims to release on any platform with a meaningful audience. He said it while describing GTA 6 as a single-player launch "on two major platforms." Take-Two knows PC players are waiting and has committed to nothing. Its fiscal 2027 outlook of $8.0 to $8.2 billion in net bookings, for the year ending March 31, 2027, was given with only the console launch announced. Our reading is that a PC release inside that year would be a surprise, but that is an inference, not something Take-Two has said.
Is GTA 6 on Steam?
No. GTA 6 has no PC version, so it has no Steam page. A Steam search on September 28, 2026 for "Grand Theft Auto VI" and "GTA 6" found no listing for it.
One game can muddy that search. Phantom Vice Auto, a GTA-style game from Brgames Interactive, is listed on Steam as an Early Access release for November 19, 2026, the same day GTA 6 launches on consoles. Its store page promises three playable characters and online play. It is not GTA 6, and Rockstar has nothing to do with it. Polygon, which reported the date on September 26, says the studio's website lists about three people, and it points out the game's familiar-looking logo. reported So if a "GTA 6" download or key for PC turns up around launch day, it is something else. Rockstar's console-to-PC history
The best predictor of a GTA 6 PC date is what Rockstar did before. GTA III, Vice City and San Andreas each reached PC within a year of their PS2 launches. The HD-era games:
| Game | Console launch | PC launch | Gap |
|---|---|---|---|
| GTA IV | April 29, 2008 | December 2, 2008 | About 7 months |
| GTA V | September 17, 2013 | April 14, 2015 | About 19 months |
| Red Dead Redemption 2 | October 26, 2018 | November 5, 2019 | About 12 months |
| Red Dead Redemption (2010) | May 18, 2010 | October 29, 2024 | Over 14 years |
| GTA 6 | November 19, 2026 | Not announced | Unknown |
Apply the three modern gaps to November 19, 2026 and you get roughly June 2027 at the GTA IV pace, November 2027 at the RDR2 pace and June 2028 at the GTA V pace. Most outlets that run this math land on late 2027 to 2028. Treat that as a projection with wide error bars.
The warning time varies just as much. GTA V's PC version was announced at E3 in June 2014 and slipped several times before its April 2015 launch. Red Dead Redemption 2's was announced on October 4, 2019 and shipped November 5, about a month later. The 2010 Red Dead Redemption got roughly three weeks' notice in October 2024. A GTA 6 PC date could arrive with very little lead time.
Rockstar's mod guidelines (September 2026)
Rockstar published official Mod Guidelines on its community resources site; the page is dated September 10, 2026 official, and press picked them up between September 19 and 22, with Game Rant and Hardware Busters covering them on September 21. They are written for Rockstar's games in general and do not announce a GTA 6 PC version, but they are the clearest official statement yet about what PC players would be allowed to do. The main rules, as the coverage summarizes them:
- No story mods. Do not expand or change Rockstar's storylines, missions, characters or established continuity.
- No cross-game mashups. Do not bring maps, locations, characters or assets from one Rockstar game into another.
- No unofficial ports. Do not modify a game to run on consoles, devices or platforms where Rockstar has not released it.
- Multiplayer through the Creator Platform. Multiplayer mods should only be made through Rockstar's official Creator Platform.
- No money outside approved channels. Paid mods are limited to the Creator Platform and Rockstar-authorized storefronts; everything else must be free and non-commercial. Real-money gambling, loot boxes, gacha mechanics and cryptocurrency are banned.
- Other limits. No cheat menus that interfere with Rockstar's multiplayer services, no unauthorized use of Rockstar or third-party IP, no real-world likenesses without permission, and no pornographic, extremist or harassing content.
Nothing in the list bans graphics, handling or weapon tweaks by name. What that means for a future GTA 6 PC version, and how it compares with the GTA V modding scene, is on GTA 6 mods. The news write-up is Rockstar's GTA 6 mod guidelines.
Why Rockstar waits
Rockstar has never explained the gap publicly, so this is our inference. The console versions carry the launch marketing and the retail deals with Sony and Microsoft. The PC versions have arrived with upgrades: GTA V on PC added 4K support, frame rates above 60 fps and debuted the Rockstar Editor, and RDR2 on PC added longer draw distances, better lighting options and unlocked frame rates. A later PC launch also gives Rockstar a second sales peak. The pattern has held for every GTA since GTA III and for both Red Dead Redemption games.
What a PC announcement would look like
Going by RDR2: a Newswire post announcing the PC version with a date about a month out, and system requirements published before launch. RDR2 then launched on the Rockstar Games Launcher and the Epic Games Store on November 5, 2019 and reached Steam on December 5. Until a post like that exists, any "GTA 6 PC release date" you see is a guess.
The rumor ledger
- rumor Leaked or "datamined" PC system requirements. Every spec sheet online is invented; there is no public PC build to datamine. See GTA 6 PC requirements.
- rumor Steam listing sightings. A Steam store search on September 28, 2026 returned no GTA VI page, and Rockstar has announced none for Steam, Epic or the Rockstar Games Launcher. The November 19 Steam game some searches turn up, Phantom Vice Auto, is a different game.
- rumor A PC version alongside consoles. Every official listing and statement says consoles only on November 19.
What PC players can do in the meantime
- Read GTA 6 PC requirements for an estimate built from the PS5's hardware rather than a fake leak.
- Planning to mod? GTA 6 mods explains what Rockstar's guidelines already allow and ban.
- Follow the GTA 6 news feed. A PC announcement would come through Rockstar's Newswire, and we cover it the same day.
- If you are thinking about a console just for this game, GTA 6 platforms compares PS5 and Xbox on today's facts, and which edition to buy explains why starting with Standard is safe.
Be careful with "PC pre-orders." No legitimate store is taking GTA 6 PC pre-orders. Key resellers listing a PC version are selling something that does not exist. The only real pre-orders are for PS5 and Xbox, through the stores on where to pre-order GTA 6.
Frequently asked questions
Is GTA 6 coming to PC?
No PC version has been announced. The November 19, 2026 launch is for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only. GTA III, Vice City, San Andreas, GTA IV, GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 all came to PC eventually, so a port is widely expected, but nothing is official.
When will GTA 6 come out on PC?
Unknown. Applying Rockstar's past gaps (GTA IV about 7 months, Red Dead Redemption 2 about 12, GTA V about 19) to November 19, 2026 gives a window from mid-2027 to mid-2028. That is a projection, not a date.
Is GTA 6 on Steam?
No. There is no PC version, so there is no Steam page: a Steam search on September 28, 2026 found no GTA VI listing. Phantom Vice Auto, a GTA-style game from the small studio Brgames Interactive, is listed on Steam for Early Access on November 19, 2026, the same day as GTA 6, but it is a different game with no link to Rockstar (Polygon reported it on September 26). If a PC version comes, Steam, the Epic Games Store and the Rockstar Games Launcher, where GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 sell, are the reasonable expectation; nothing is announced.
Can you mod GTA 6?
There is no PC version to mod yet. Rockstar's mod guidelines, dated September 10, 2026 and written for its games in general, already rule out story mods, cross-game mashups, unofficial ports and paid mods outside its approved channels. See GTA 6 mods.
Why is GTA 6 not on PC at launch?
Rockstar has not said. It has shipped consoles first and PC later for every GTA since GTA III and for both Red Dead Redemption games. Take-Two's CEO has only said that PC is "more and more important" to the company.
Can I play GTA 6 on PC through cloud streaming?
No cloud or streaming version has been announced on any service.
What changed on this page
- Added a short answer on Steam: GTA 6 has no Steam page, and Phantom Vice Auto, a GTA-style game listed on Steam for November 19, is not GTA 6 and not from Rockstar. Re-checked on September 28: still no PC version.
- Re-checked on September 26: still no PC version, date or store listing. Nothing new on Rockstar Newswire, Rockstar Support or in Take-Two's SEC filings mentions PC.
- Added Rockstar's mod guidelines, dated September 10, 2026, and corrected the PC history: Red Dead Redemption 2's PC version was announced only a month before it shipped, and its gap was about 12 months, not 13.
