Can you hunt in GTA 6? Gator hunts, Mount Kalaga and what is known

What is official

Rockstar has shown hunting in two regions, in screenshots and in footage. official What these images show is fact. What they mean for play is our reading.

• Hunters in the Mount Kalaga woods. Rockstar's caption: two people holding rifles walk side by side through the woods of the national park. One wears a blaze-orange vest (the image below). Rockstar's region text sells Mount Kalaga for "prime hunting, fishing, and off-road trails."
• A Grassrivers airboat crew. Rockstar's caption describes three mud-covered people posing on an airboat with a dead alligator and a wildcat, one with an automatic weapon against his leg and another holding a rifle. It is the image at the top of this page. The panel at the top of the propeller cage, behind the high seat, is lettered "AIRGATOR" and "AIRBOAT 09"; fan databases take that as the boat's model name, and community wikis read Airgator as its maker. rumor
• A gator hunt from above. Another official caption: two people in an airboat surrounded by alligators, one aiming a gun at the closest gator.
• Game in the park. In Mount Kalaga, a cougar stalks a herd of deer drinking from a stream, per Rockstar's caption. The GTA 6 animals list tracks every species seen so far.
• The Extended Look. KeenGamer lists hunting among the side activities in the August 27, 2026 footage, alongside fanboat driving, and Red Bull's recap says you can hunt alligators. See the Extended Look breakdown.

None of the people in those screenshots is Jason or Lucia. They look like Leonida locals, so the images prove hunters exist in the world, not how a hunt plays for you.

What previews reported

Press watched Rob Nelson play at Rockstar North in July 2026, hands-off. These details come from those sessions and from press recaps of the Extended Look. reported

Part of that may be on screen. Postmode's Extended Look recap says Jason can Pet, Scold or Study a dog by holding R1. reported "Study" is the word Red Dead Redemption 2 used for logging a species. The contact behind hunting has not been named. not announced

Guns seen with hunters

Rockstar has not named any of these. The identifications are PC Gamer's, from the official screenshots. reported Full entries are on the GTA 6 weapons list.

Where to hunt

Rockstar's Grassrivers text says the gators may be the most famous attraction, but that "far deadlier predators" live among the mangroves. It does not say which.

What to expect: Red Dead and GTA V

This section is precedent, not a GTA 6 fact. Rockstar has built hunting twice before, in two very different ways.

• Red Dead Redemption 2 (October 26, 2018). Hunting gave food, money and crafting materials. Your weapon and where you hit the animal changed the quality and value of the meat and pelt, and a carried carcass rotted over time and drew predators. Studying animals filled the Compendium, with info cards that showed each animal's star rating and pelt quality.
• GTA V (2013). Only Trevor could hunt, in the Chiliad Mountain State Wilderness, after Cletus Ewing's mission "Fair Game." You photographed each kill and texted it to Cletus, who paid by animal and by shot; heart, neck and head shots paid more.

Our reading: hunting tied to a contact, with money in it, sounds closer to GTA V's Cletus setup, while species tracking and the Study option point at Red Dead. Previews also say you cannot carry fish, which hints that GTA 6 may skip Red Dead's carry-and-sell loop for animals too. Nobody has reported that, so treat it as a guess.

Still unknown

• Which contact is behind hunting, and what hunting for them involves.
• Whether you skin, carry or sell animals, and what anything pays.
• Which animals can be hunted beyond those shown, and whether any are rare or legendary.
• Whether Lucia hunts too, or only Jason.
• Whether shooting animals in a national park brings the police.
