Brian’s Boat Works & Marina is Brian Heder’s boat yard in the Leonida Keys, and by Rockstar’s own account it is more than a boat yard. Brian’s official bio calls him a classic drug runner from the golden age of Keys smuggling who is “still moving product through his boat yard” with his third wife, Lori. The yard is the legitimate face of that business.
Why it matters
The Keys are where GTA 6 starts. Rockstar North’s Rob Nelson told Famitsu the story begins there (reported), and Jason Duval’s life in the Keys revolves around Brian. Brian lets Jason live rent-free in one of his properties, Jason’s safehouse, as long as he helps with local shakedowns. That makes the boat yard the likely source of the opening jobs. That last part is our reading; Rockstar has not described any mission here.
Where it appears
| Where | What is shown | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Trailer 2 (May 6, 2025) | The yard’s boathouse returns several times, from the opening shot by community count; Brian arrives in a silver pickup in the first seconds | Official |
| Official screenshot | Jason, pistol drawn, beside a blue-and-white seaplane with the yard’s script lettering, a police boat behind him at dusk | Official |
| Official screenshot | A seaplane in the same livery tied up at a jetty in a riverside settlement in Grassrivers | Official |
| An Extended Look (Aug 27, 2026) | Jason’s cap reads Brian’s Boat Works & Marina when he turns to shoot a three-pointer | Official |
| Community wikis | A big green boathouse with a red roof sign reading “Brian’s Marina” and a fascia sign offering boat repairs | Reported |
Community wikis call the riverside settlement with the moored seaplane Sunrise RV Park.
The seaplane
Brian’s line on Rockstar’s site is a boast about flying: he hauled so much grass “in that plane” he could make the state of Leonida levitate. The company livery on a seaplane, and that plane parked at a Grassrivers jetty, suggest the yard’s reach runs well beyond the Keys. That is our reading.
Community wikis call the plane a Dodo, the name of the seaplane in GTA V. Rockstar has not named it, and no footage has shown a player at the controls.
Who you will meet here
- Brian Heder, the owner, sold by Rockstar as a Leonida beach bum who moves like a great white shark. Stephen Root has said he is in the game, and press ties that to Brian (reported; his quoted words do not name the role, and Rockstar has announced no cast).
- Lori, Brian’s third wife, who helps keep the product moving.
- Jason Duval, Brian’s tenant and errand runner.
- Cal Hampton, Jason’s friend and fellow Brian associate.
Real-world inspiration
Fans match the yard to The Marina Club at Blackwater Sound in Key Largo. That is a fan identification, not something Rockstar has said. The history is real either way: the Florida Keys were a main entry point for marijuana and cocaine in the 1970s and 1980s, the “golden age” Brian’s bio refers to, and boat yards and small planes were how the product came in.
What is still unknown
- Whether the yard is a mission hub you return to, or scenery for a few story beats.
- Whether you can take its boats or the seaplane.
- Where exactly it sits in the Keys. Rockstar has not published a full map yet, and the Key Lento name traces to leaked material.
For everything else in the island chain, see the Leonida Keys guide. The Leonida map shows how the Keys connect to the rest of the state.
Frequently asked questions
Where is Brian's Boat Works in GTA 6?
In the Leonida Keys, the island chain south of Vice City where the story starts. Community wikis place it in a town they call Key Lento, but that name comes from leaked map material and Rockstar has not used it.
Is Brian's Boat Works a front for smuggling?
Effectively, yes, though Rockstar never uses the word front. Brian Heder's official bio calls him a classic drug runner from the golden age of Keys smuggling who is still moving product through his boat yard with his wife Lori.
Can you fly the Brian's Boat Works seaplane?
Not shown yet. Two official screenshots show a seaplane in the yard's livery, one with Jason standing beside it, but no footage has shown a player flying it.
Can you buy Brian's Boat Works?
Nothing suggests it. It is Brian's business in the story, and Rockstar has not announced any business you can buy. Previews say you can buy garages but not safehouses (reported).
