What happens when you get busted
The only arrest rule reported so far is about money. Rob Nelson told Famitsu there is a risk of losing cash if you end up Wasted or Busted, and that if the police or civilians take you down you lose all the cash you are carrying. GTABase's recap of the July previews says the same. reported Money deposited at an ATM into Jason and Lucia's joint account is safe, so the habit that protects you from death also protects you from an arrest. The GTA 6 money system explains the three kinds of money.
Getting arrested starts with getting noticed. Rob Nelson told Famitsu that, as in Red Dead Redemption 2, you only become wanted if somebody sees you. Previews add that police need a witness, an alarm or a car tracker before they respond. reported The Extended Look HUD shows six wanted stars. official How to avoid all of that is in how to lose your wanted level in GTA 6.
GTABase, a fan database, also says that if one character is Wasted during a shared job, both are out. No outlet has repeated it, so treat it as rumor. rumor Whether an arrest takes the partner down with you has not been said.

Lucia's prison story
Prison is the first thing Rockstar ever showed of GTA 6. Trailer 1 opens on Lucia in an orange jumpsuit across a desk from Stefanie, a Leonida Department of Corrections counselor, who asks whether she knows why she is there. "Bad luck, I guess," Lucia answers. official An official screenshot shows her handcuffed in line with other inmates.
Rockstar's bio fills in only a little. Her father taught her to fight almost as soon as she could walk, fighting for her family is what put her in Leonida Penitentiary, and luck is what got her out. She has decided on smarter moves from here, and sees a life with Jason as her way to the good life her mother always chased. official
Trailer 2 shows the other end. A watchtower, Jason at the visitors' window, then Lucia walking out of the gate to his car at about 1:04. official Rockstar has not said whether she is out on conditions such as parole, or whether any terms limit where she can go in play. No source we could check documents an ankle monitor in that scene.
What is not known: her crime, how long she served, and how "luck" got her out. The full profile is on Lucia Caminos.
Leonida Penitentiary
The prison is real in the fiction and on the map: it is named in Lucia's official bio and appears in both trailers and official screenshots. official It is run by the Leonida Department of Corrections, the state agency on Stefanie's office wall. Fan maps place it near Hamlet, south of Vice City. rumor Whether you can visit it, or go inside, has not been shown. The location page is Leonida Penitentiary, and the forces that would arrest you are in the GTA 6 police directory.
What past Rockstar games did
This is series history, not GTA 6 information. It shows what an arrest has usually cost. reported
| Game | What getting caught cost you |
|---|---|
| GTA III, Vice City, San Andreas | Released outside the nearest police station, minus your weapons and a small cash "bribe". In San Andreas, dating Barbara Schternvart, a police officer, let CJ keep his weapons. |
| GTA IV and GTA V | Released near a station after a penalty; an officer holding you at gunpoint could be resisted, turning the arrest into a chase |
| Red Dead Redemption 2 | Crimes put a bounty on your head in that region, which you paid off to clear |
| GTA 6 (2026) | Busted costs the cash you carry; nothing else reported |
The pattern across twenty years is a setback, not a sentence. Nothing reported about GTA 6 breaks it.

Rockstar's bio says only that fighting for her family put her in Leonida Penitentiary and luck got her out. The crime and the length of her sentence have not been revealed.
Can you surrender to the police in GTA 6?
Not in anything official. A surrender option has only come up in coverage of leaked footage, which we do not treat as fact. We will check on launch day.
Can you visit Leonida Penitentiary?
