YouTuber Davy Jones says Rob Nelson, co-studio head at Rockstar North, told visitors to the studio that the consoles ran GTA 6 at 30 fps during development and that a 60 fps option was a question for Rockstar’s technical team. Flow Games covered it first and Kotaku reported it on August 27, 2026. Rockstar itself has published nothing on frame rate, so treat this as reported, not confirmed.

What Nelson reportedly said

By Jones’s account, Nelson said the consoles currently run the game at 30 fps and that any 60 fps mode, at launch or in a later update, would need input from the technical team. He neither ruled it out nor promised it. Kotaku adds that he had no details to share on resolution or ray tracing.

What the footage shows

Digital Foundry’s analysis of the Extended Look, reported by Pure Xbox on August 28, found a stable, well-paced 30 fps with only occasional single dropped frames. The footage ran at a native 1440p with a simple spatial upscale to 4K. Digital Foundry called 60 fps on console “extremely unlikely” without compromising the world. Rockstar says the showcase was captured on a PlayStation 5.

Where PS5 Pro fits

The PlayStation Store listing carries a PS5 Pro Enhanced badge, but Sony has not said what it adds and Rockstar has not mentioned the Pro. Digital Foundry worked from base PS5 footage. Any claim of a 60 fps Pro mode is guesswork; see GTA 6 on PS5 Pro for what the badge usually covers.

Rockstar’s track record

Red Dead Redemption 2 launched at 30 fps on PS4 and Xbox One in 2018. GTA V gained a 60 fps performance mode in its March 2022 PS5 and Xbox Series X|S release, but that was a 2013 game running on new hardware. A 30 fps launch for a new Rockstar open world would fit that history.
