Sony brought GTA 6 to Tokyo Game Show 2026, but not new footage. The PlayStation booth at Makuhari Messe near Tokyo (September 17 to 21) ran a Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look theater, playing the August 27 gameplay video on a 300-inch screen. Sony’s floor haptics made the floor vibrate in time with the picture and sound. PlayStation Blog Japan announced the theater on September 10.
What visitors got
- A T-shirt. Everyone who watched received a “Grand Theft Auto VI | PlayStation” shirt: size L only, one per person, limited stock.
- Stickers. A booth-wide promotion gave a three-sticker set to anyone who posted about the booth with #PS5. Dexerto says the set included a VI sticker.
- A GTA VI livestream. Sony’s booth stream schedule listed an “NT Radio” GTA VI special for September 20, 1:30 to 2:10 PM Japan time.
The line and the resale market
Dexerto reported on September 20 that the theater line closed within 10 minutes of opening because it hit capacity. The free shirts went straight to resale: Mercari listings at about ¥12,000 (about $76), and an Osaka seller sold two on eBay at $219.99 each. Status: reported.
Why it matters
The theater adds no game information. What it shows is Sony pushing its GTA 6 partnership beyond the US, with the “Plays Best On PlayStation 5” co-marketing now reaching Japan’s biggest games show. The same partnership produced the two Limited Edition DualSense controllers.
