Rockstar’s gameplay showcase Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look premiered on Netflix at 3:00 PM ET on August 27, 2026, and reached Rockstar’s YouTube channel and website at 9:00 PM ET the same night. It runs 26 minutes, 48 seconds. For every scene and mechanic, read our Extended Look breakdown. This post covers how the premiere landed and what has happened since.

The sign-up figure is the telling one. Anyone could watch free on YouTube six hours later, yet more than 100,000 people in the US signed up for Netflix to see it first.

Zelnick: part showcase, part tutorial

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said at a GamesBeat Insider event, reported on September 17, that there was “an element of tutorial baked in” to the video. His point was that a showcase can teach people how a game plays before they spend money on it. That explains why the footage walks through character switching, the six-star wanted level and the three kinds of money one system at a time. It was commentary, not a new reveal.

A second screening in Tokyo

Sony also screened it at Tokyo Game Show, September 17–21; see the Tokyo Game Show theater report.

What it is not

Rockstar’s site lists the video as “An Extended Look” beside Trailer 1 and Trailer 2. It has never called anything Trailer 3, and no launch trailer has been announced; see GTA 6 Trailer 3. Rockstar published a new batch of official screenshots with the Extended Look on August 27, 2026, collected in our GTA 6 screenshots gallery.

What changed on this page

  • Refocused the post on the premiere, added Ampere's 100,000+ US Netflix sign-ups, Strauss Zelnick's 'tutorial' remark and Sony's Tokyo Game Show screening, and corrected the Netflix chart and YouTube figures to Engadget's; the scene-by-scene detail now lives on the Extended Look breakdown. The Tokyo theater ran on all five show days, not only the public days; its full story now lives in the Tokyo Game Show report.
