Previews list seven apps: WAINK (car scanner), Ryde Me (rides), Scooter Bros (car delivery), BuckMe (banking), WhatUp, Snapmatic (camera) and a fitness app. The button that opens the phone has not been shown, and Jason and Lucia cannot post photos publicly because they are on the run.
Step by step
Our reading of the footage and previews. The button has not been shown.
- Take out the phone. Rob Nelson told Famitsu the phone is now a physical object that exists in the world. GTABase, a fan database, says the camera moves in on the character’s hands instead of laying a menu over the screen (rumor until an outlet or the footage backs it).
- Open the app you need (table below).
- Set a destination without the map. Nelson says you can hold a button to set a destination without opening the map.
- Use it on the move. When your partner drives, switch to the passenger and scroll. See how to switch characters.
Every app so far
| App | What it does | Status |
|---|---|---|
| WAINK | Scans a parked car: security, tool needed, tracker, registration cost, resale value | Shown in the Extended Look; details reported |
| Ryde Me | Ride-hailing, the main fast-travel option | Shown in the Extended Look |
| Scooter Bros | Sends someone to deliver your personal vehicle | Reported (Vice) |
| BuckMe | Manages the joint bank account | Reported (Vice) |
| WhatUp | Not described; the name parodies WhatsApp | Reported (Vice), name only |
| Snapmatic | Camera | Reported (Vice) |
| Fitness app | Name not reported; ties into the gym | Reported (Vice) |
Jason and Lucia also text each other, which previews say helps their relationship. Press reported in 2025 that Take-Two registered the domains rydeme.app, what-up.app and buckme.app. Postmode also spotted iFruit branding, the series’ Apple parody, in the Extended Look. Our phone apps page keeps the full list.
Photos and social media
- Shown: Trailer 1 included a vertical-video social feed of Florida Man clips. Rockstar did not name the app.
- Retailer copy: Amazon Brazil’s listing said you can “watch viral videos, follow influencers, and discover world events” on the in-game phone, and KaBuM! described following Vice City influencers. That is retailer copy, not Rockstar’s.
- Reported: Jason and Lucia cannot upload photos or post, because they are in hiding. You can send photos to your partner and look at other people’s social media (Rob Nelson, Famitsu). KeenGamer, citing IGN, reports the same.
- Reported: A Photo Mode is in the game; the Rockstar Editor was not in the preview build (Vice).
What each app is for
- WAINK is the first step of car theft. Walkthrough: how to steal cars in GTA 6.
- Ryde Me and Scooter Bros are how you cover distance, since no teleport menu has been shown. See how to fast travel in GTA 6.
- BuckMe is where the couple’s bank balance lives; cash in your pocket is not safe. See how to make money.
- Texts feed the relationship. See how to go on a date.
What we expect
- The button. GTA V used Up on the d-pad. That is the most likely default, but it is a guess. Our controls page will list it as soon as it is known.
- More apps at launch. Previewers saw a build months before release, so the final phone may carry more.
Still unknown
- The button that opens the phone, on PS5 and Xbox.
- What WhatUp actually does.
- How the social feed chooses which world events to show you.

What changed on this page
- Corrected Snapmatic (Jason and Lucia cannot post publicly, and Trailer 1's social feed was never named Snapmatic), added the apps reported from previews, stopped describing WhatUp's function and removed an unsourced claim that you cannot aim with the phone out. Tagged GTABase's phone-camera detail as rumor.
