How to Buy GTA 6 as a Gift (PS5 and Xbox)

The easiest way to give someone GTA 6 is the boxed copy: a Standard Edition download code for their console, in stores from November 12, 2026. If you would rather give it digitally, send PlayStation Store or Xbox gift cards from their country and let them buy it. Either way, check two things first: which console they own, and, on PlayStation, which region their account is in.

Your options compared

A digital purchase through a gift card has one extra: the free month of GTA+ that comes with digital pre-orders on both stores. A boxed copy does not include it.

Before you buy: three checks

1. The console. GTA 6 is on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only. It is not on PS4, Xbox One or PC, so any “GTA 6 PC key” is fake. A PlayStation code does not work on Xbox or the other way round.
2. The region. On PlayStation, Rockstar says a game code only works on an account from the region where it was sold (the US and Canada share one; the UK is its own), and Sony says the same of gift cards, so buy for the country their account is set to. Rockstar says Xbox game codes are not region-locked.
3. Their age. There is no final rating yet: US store pages say rating pending, likely Mature 17+, and the UK PlayStation Store shows a “PEGI Provisional 18” label. A child account can be blocked from it by the parent’s settings. See the GTA 6 age rating.

Option 1: the boxed copy (easiest)

The physical edition is a download code in a box, with no disc, and Take-Two says it will be available from November 12, 2026 to support pre-loading. It is always the Standard Edition; Rockstar Support says the Ultimate Edition is digital-only. Wrap it, include a gift receipt, and the recipient redeems the code on their own account. The steps they will follow are in how to redeem a GTA 6 code.

Buy it before November 20 if you can: Take-Two’s rule is that all pre-orders and purchases before that date include the Vintage Vice City Pack, and Rockstar Support lists the pack with physical pre-orders. Ordering early does not get the box to you sooner, though: boxes only become available to ship and pick up from November 12. More on the box itself: GTA 6 physical edition. Buying the box on Amazon? Its delivery dates, and the US and Canada lock on its PS5 code, are on GTA 6 on Amazon.

Option 2: PlayStation Store gift cards

The PlayStation Store has no gift button; Sony’s store support pages cover gift cards and wallet top-ups, not gifting games. So give PlayStation Store gift cards that cover the price plus tax (amounts below). The recipient enters the 12-digit code under Redeem Code in the PlayStation Store, then buys GTA 6.

Two catches. The card must be for the same region as their account. And a child account has no wallet of its own: it spends from the family manager’s wallet, so for a child the gift card goes on the parent’s account. Bought digitally before November 20, the copy gets the Vintage Vice City Pack and a GTA+ month to claim by March 31, 2027.

Option 3: Xbox gift cards or Buy as gift

The Microsoft Store has a Buy as gift option for many digital games, which emails the recipient a code. When we checked the GTA 6 page on xbox.com on September 23, 2026, it showed a Pre-order button and no gift option. On a console or on xbox.com, look in the menu next to the buy button. If Buy as gift is not there, give an Xbox gift card for the recipient’s country instead. They redeem it, buy GTA 6 and get the GTA+ month, which on Xbox must be redeemed within 180 days of their purchase. The Microsoft Store listing excludes child accounts with age-restricted content limits from the GTA+ offer, so a teenager on a child account may not get that month.

How much to put on a gift card

Rockstar has not announced a GTA 6 gift card, so you give PlayStation Store or Xbox store credit in fixed card amounts. Round up to cover sales tax:

Whether a digital game is taxed depends on the recipient’s state, so leave some room; anything left over stays in their wallet or account balance. UK prices already include VAT: £69.99 for Standard and £89.99 for Ultimate.

Giving it for the holidays

GTA 6 comes out on Thursday, November 19, 2026, a week before Thanksgiving. Timing still matters:

• Buy by November 19 for the bonus. Purchases before November 20 include the Vintage Vice City Pack. A boxed copy bought by then can stay wrapped until the holidays; one bought on or after November 20 does not include the pack.
• Gift cards given after November 19 miss it, because the recipient buys the game after the cutoff. If the pack matters, give a boxed copy bought early.
• Check the code’s expiry. Rockstar Support says Japanese codes expire 170 days after launch; check the box for any date elsewhere.
• Sale dates. Amazon’s Prime Big Deal Days runs October 6-7, and Black Friday is November 27. Rockstar, Sony and Microsoft have announced no discount on the game itself; GTA 6 deals covers both dates.

The Collector’s Box: a gift with no game inside

The big-ticket gift is Rockstar’s Collector’s Box, The Goodtime State - Vice City Collection, at $399.99 on the Rockstar Store. Rockstar says its 11 collectibles are inspired by Macca the Gator, “Leonida’s hit TV show”, and they run from a Macca figure and Oakley Frogskins sunglasses to a poster with the Leonida map on the back. Before you buy it as a present:

• No game inside. The store says “Grand Theft Auto VI game sold separately”, so pair it with a boxed copy or gift cards.
• One per person. It is limited to one per person and needs a Rockstar Store login, so buying it as a gift uses up your own one.
• Adults only. Rockstar labels it “Adult collectibles. Not a toy. Ages 18+.”
• Ships from November 19, 2026, to 23 countries: the US, Canada, the UK and 20 in Europe. There is no free shipping, and duties may apply outside the US and UK.
• Australia is different. EB Games sold it there at A$699.95, one per customer, and its listing read “Presold Out” on September 28, the day pre-orders opened. Press Start reports a JB Hi-Fi ballot for Perks members (reported). Asia and Latin America are still waiting on details from Rockstar.
• Limited quantities. Rockstar sells it “while supplies last”; the US listing was still open for pre-order on September 28. To cancel, use Xsolla’s form before it ships; see how to refund or cancel a GTA 6 pre-order.

The UK price is reported as £349.99; the store showed us US dollars only. Every item, and why it is not an edition of the game, is on the GTA 6 Collector’s Box page, and our news story on the announcement covers the launch and the reaction.

Extras to go with it

• The Ultimate upgrade. A boxed copy can become Ultimate with the $20 upgrade; add a store gift card to cover it. See how to upgrade to the Ultimate Edition.
• The controller. Sony’s Limited Edition GTA 6 DualSense, in black or white, comes out November 19; prices and stores are on GTA 6 controller.
• The soundtrack. Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album, 34 tracks, is out on November 19, with the CD and vinyl shipping from November 20; see GTA 6: The Album.

Mistakes to avoid

• Key resellers. Codes far below $79.99 on marketplaces can be region-locked or revoked, and press reports put resold Collector’s Boxes far above Rockstar’s $399.99; see how to avoid GTA 6 scams.
• Redeeming it yourself. A redeemed code or gift card cannot be moved to another account.
• Throwing away the receipt. Keep it until the game is installed, in case the code is faulty.

Where to buy

Gift it or pay with store credit

Amazon

The boxed code is the easiest gift to wrap; the PS5 code works only on US and Canadian PlayStation accounts. Store credit goes toward a digital copy, the $20 Ultimate upgrade or GTA+, and the gift cards Amazon.com sells are for US accounts.
