On PS5, open PlayStation Store, press the triangle button, choose … (More) > Redeem Code and enter the 12-character code. On Xbox, open Store, press the View button, choose Redeem and enter the 25-character code; the game then pre-loads from November 12, 2026.
Every boxed copy needs this step, because the physical edition contains a download code and no disc.
Before you type anything
Platform. A PlayStation code will not work on Xbox, and an Xbox code will not work on PlayStation. The box says which one you have.
Region. On PlayStation, Rockstar says a code only works on an account registered in the region where it was sold. The main groups are North America (US and Canada), the UK, Latin America, Brazil, Japan, Korea, Saudi Arabia and UAE, a group of Asian markets (Hong Kong, Taiwan and four Southeast Asian countries), and a large group covering most of Europe, Australia, New Zealand, India and South Africa. Xbox codes are not region-locked. Japanese PlayStation codes expire 170 days after launch.
Account. The license goes to whichever account redeems the code, and Xbox Support says a redeemed code cannot be moved to another account. On a shared console, sign in as the person who will own GTA 6.
Code length. PlayStation Store codes are 12 characters. Xbox codes are 25 characters, laid out as XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX.
How to redeem on PS5
- Open PlayStation Store.
- Press the triangle button to open the menu, then select … (More) > Redeem Code.
- Enter the 12-character code and select Redeem.
- Grand Theft Auto VI is added to your library. From November 12, open Game Library > Your Collection and select Download if the pre-load has not started on its own.
On your phone: in the PlayStation App, open the PS Store icon, tap the menu icon on the right, choose Redeem Code and select Continue. In a browser: go to store.playstation.com, select your profile at the top, then Redeem Code.
How to redeem on Xbox Series X|S
- Press the Xbox button and select Store.
- Press the View button to open the side menu, then select Redeem.
- Enter the 25-character code, select Next and follow the prompts.
- From November 12, open My games & apps > Full library and select Install if the pre-load has not started.
In a browser: go to xbox.com/redeem. The Xbox app on your phone and on Windows can redeem codes too. Xbox may ask you to add a payment method before redeeming, but Xbox Support says you will not be charged for it.
What the box includes
One code for the Standard Edition and the Vintage Vice City Pack, if the copy was bought before November 20. It does not include the free GTA+ month, which is for digital purchases only. There is no boxed Ultimate Edition. Once the code is redeemed, you can buy the $20 upgrade; see how to upgrade to Ultimate.
When you can redeem
Rockstar says boxes become available for shipping and store pickup from November 12, and codes work as soon as you have them. A shipped copy usually arrives after pre-load has opened, so redeem it the moment it lands. The Rockstar Store sells the same box and ships from November 12. It does not email codes.
Gifting a code
If you were given GTA 6, check the platform first, and on PlayStation the region, before you redeem anything. An unredeemed code in the wrong format can usually be exchanged by the giver at the store. Buying one? Read how to buy GTA 6 as a gift.
If the code does not work
- “Code already used”: contact the retailer with your receipt.
- Region error on PS5: the box was sold for a different PlayStation region than your account. Ask the retailer for an exchange.
- “Code invalid”: re-check characters that are easy to confuse, such as 0 and O or 1 and I, and make sure you are on the right platform.

Where is the code in the GTA 6 physical edition?

Can I redeem a GTA 6 code from another country?
