GTA 6’s Ultimate Edition is digital-only. Rockstar Support’s “Grand Theft Auto VI Platforms, Editions, and Versions” article, last updated August 18, 2026, states: “A physical version of the Grand Theft Auto VI: Ultimate Edition is not available.” If you want Ultimate and a box, you buy the physical Standard Edition, redeem its code, then add the $20 Ultimate Edition Upgrade on the PlayStation Store or Microsoft Store.

What the article says

  • The box is Standard only. It holds a download code for the Standard Edition and no disc. Retailers can ship it and hand it over from November 12, the day pre-loading opens.
  • Upgrade after you redeem. Physical buyers can add the upgrade at any point once the code has been used. The $79.99 box plus the $20 upgrade comes to $99.99, the same as the digital Ultimate Edition.
  • What a physical pre-order includes. One code covers the game and the Vintage Vice City Pack: the ‘55 Vapid Stanier and its garage, outfits and hairstyles, and a weapon pattern. The free month of GTA+ is not on the list; Rockstar ties it to digital pre-orders on the PlayStation Store and Microsoft Store.
  • Region rules. PlayStation codes only work on accounts from the region group where the code was sold. The US and Canada form one group, the UK has its own, and Australia and New Zealand share one with India and most of Europe. Xbox codes are not region-locked.
  • Japanese codes expire. Codes sold in Japan expire 170 days after the November 19, 2026 launch, which by our count is May 8, 2027.

SVG reported the digital-only Ultimate Edition on August 26, eight days after Rockstar updated the article.

What it means for you

Boxed buyers pay the same total for Ultimate as digital buyers, but they give up the free GTA+ month and wait for the box to arrive. A box also holds only a code, so there is nothing to resell or trade in once it is redeemed.

The item list is on GTA 6 editions, the box itself is explained on the physical edition page, and the steps are in how to upgrade to the Ultimate Edition. Still choosing a format? Read physical vs digital.

Amazon's Pre-order Price Guarantee: "the price we charge when we ship it to you will be the lowest price offered by Amazon.com between the time you placed your order and the end of the day of the release date." Amazon's help page adds that it "does not apply to lower prices offered through any program that requires a customer to join the program to receive the lower price." Amazon's release date for the GTA VI boxes is November 12.

Amazon's listing offers Prime members release-day delivery on November 12.
