A Rockstar Games filing in a UK employment tribunal says dismissed staff discussed “an online 32 player format” for a confidential project. The filing does not name the game; Dexerto and GamesRadar, which reported it on September 10, 2026, read it as GTA 6. Rockstar has not announced an online mode, a player count or a date.
The case
Thirty-one former Rockstar North employees, backed by the Independent Workers’ Union of Great Britain (IWGB), are challenging their dismissals. The union says they were fired for union activity; Rockstar’s position, per its filing, is that they discussed a confidential project’s features on a private Discord server. The filing lists the online 32-player format among those features and calls game features “the most closely guarded secrets of the company.”
The final hearing runs from September 10 to October 15, 2026 at the Glasgow Tribunal Centre, according to the IWGB, which says it sits at least until then. Some early coverage placed it in Edinburgh, where Rockstar North is based.
What the filing does and does not say
The document does not say the 32-player format is final, that it ships with the game, or what a 32-player session looks like. GTA Online on GTA V holds up to 30 players in a public session on current consoles, so 32 would be a modest increase. Status: reported, from a court document, not an announcement.
The Twitch comment
On September 18, GamingBible reported that Twitch CEO Dan Clancy had told Bloomberg: “You are going to see this big bump with GTA VI, but then an even bigger one next year when they launch multiplayer.” GamingBible says Clancy based this on conversations with Rockstar. He is still a third party whose platform benefits from GTA 6 streams, so we treat the 2027 timing as reported, not confirmed.
What Take-Two has said
The official line is narrow. At Take-Two’s annual meeting on September 17, CEO Strauss Zelnick said the company is “launching GTA 6 as a single player experience on two major platforms,” with “no recurrent consumer spending anticipated with regard to this launch.” He called the existing GTA Online, on GTA V, “a robust business.” Our Take-Two annual meeting report has the rest.
Put together, the evidence points to a multiplayer mode in development. Rockstar treats its details as secret, and nothing online is part of the November 19 launch. See GTA 6 Online for everything known, GTA+ for what the pre-order membership month covers, and the GTA 6 timeline for how this fits the year.

Frequently asked questions
Does GTA 6 have a 32-player online mode?
Not announced. A Rockstar filing in an employment tribunal says former staff discussed an online 32-player format for a confidential project, which outlets read as GTA 6. Rockstar has not announced a player count, a mode or a date, so 32 is a reported detail from a court document, not a confirmed feature.
When does GTA 6 Online come out?
Not announced. Twitch CEO Dan Clancy told Bloomberg multiplayer would launch next year, meaning 2027, but he does not speak for Rockstar. Take-Two says only that GTA 6 launches single-player on November 19, 2026.
Why was Rockstar in court?
Thirty-one former Rockstar North employees, backed by the IWGB union, are challenging their dismissals. The final hearing runs from September 10 to October 15, 2026 at the Glasgow Tribunal Centre, per the IWGB. Rockstar's filing says they discussed confidential project features on a private Discord.
How many players does GTA Online on GTA V support?
Up to 30 players in a public session on current consoles, so 32 would be a small step up, not a reinvention.
What changed on this page
- Corrected the tribunal location to the Glasgow Tribunal Centre, added the hearing dates from the IWGB (September 10 to October 15), and dated Take-Two's 'no recurrent consumer spending' line to the September 17 annual meeting. Made clear that the filing names a confidential project, not GTA 6, and that outlets read it as GTA 6.
