What Rockstar has said about GTA 6
Nothing. No Newswire post, store listing or Rockstar Support article mentions an ID check, a face scan or any age verification for GTA 6. not announced The PlayStation listing describes a "1 player" game with "Offline play enabled," and Take-Two calls the November 19 launch a single-player release. official The Microsoft Store lists it as "Single player" too. A single-player game you can play offline has no chat or online feature for a platform age check to switch off, which is also why crossplay does not apply at launch. Console details are on GTA 6 on PS5 and GTA 6 on Xbox.
You will still meet the normal age gates: a store checking ID for an M-rated boxed game, and parental controls on a child account. The rating itself is covered on GTA 6 age rating.

The UK checks come from the Online Safety Act, which makes platforms with chat and user content keep children away from harmful material. Sony and Microsoft chose to apply it at the console level, which is why the prompt appears on your PS5 or Xbox, not inside a game.
Where the GTA 6 ID rumor came from
In August 2025, dataminers reported finding age-verification screens in GTA Online's files, covering online play, in-game messages and the Snapmatic photo feature. rumor Headlines quickly turned that into "GTA 6 age verification." Former Rockstar North developer Obbe Vermeij, replying to fans on X, said such checks are "not something publishers like to do but they may not have a choice with the new laws in some countries & states," as Dexerto reported. reported Rockstar did not comment.
The code became news again when Australia's rules started on March 9, 2026. Screen Rant reported a "verify age" landing page with a QR code, but GTA BOOM tested GTA Online in Australia on March 10 and found no prompts, no QR codes and no ID requests; it said the screens dataminers had found were still dormant. reported We have seen no Rockstar announcement since. None of this is about GTA 6's single-player game.
What could change with GTA 6 Online
GTA 6 Online has no name, date or announcement. not announced Twitch's CEO told Bloomberg multiplayer comes "next year," which is reported, not confirmed. If and when it launches, three things point to some form of age check:
- GTA 6 is likely to be rated R18+ in Australia, as GTA V was (our expectation), and online R18+ games there now need age assurance (reported).
- Chat and player content in the UK already sit behind PlayStation's and Xbox's verification.
- Dataminers say Rockstar has built, but not switched on, verification screens for the current GTA Online (rumor).
That is our reading of the direction of the rules. It is not a Rockstar plan, and the most likely route is the one Sony and Microsoft already use: verify once on the console, not per game. Follow GTA 6 Online for any announcement.
How to avoid problems on launch night
- Check the date of birth on your PlayStation or Xbox account is right. A child account inside a family group can be blocked from M and 18 games by the parent's settings.
- In the UK or Ireland, verify your console account if you want party chat or streaming. Skipping it does not stop GTA 6 from running.

Do you need ID to play GTA 6?
No ID requirement has been announced. Rockstar has said nothing about age checks for GTA 6, and the game launches single-player with offline play enabled on PS5. The real age checks in 2026 are console-level ones in the UK and Ireland, plus Australia's rules for online R18+ games. They gate chat and online features, not single-player games.
Do I have to verify my age on PS5 in the UK to play GTA 6?
No. Sony's own FAQ says UK and Ireland adult accounts that skip verification can still play games and buy from the PlayStation Store. What you lose is voice chat, messaging, parties and broadcasting until you verify with a mobile number, a face scan or ID.
Is the GTA 6 face scan or ID upload rumor real?
